Christian Thompson is a BVI-resident independent director and co-founder of Mount Sage Advisors, with more than 25 years in investment management, fund operations, investment banking and audit. He spent a decade at Man Group overseeing performance, risk and operations across more than 100 emerging hedge fund managers, chaired its Valuation Committee, and is a member of the BVI FSC Securities, Investment Business and Mutual Funds Advisory Committee.
Investment Funds & Managers
Christian’s experience is the allocator’s side of the table. At Man Group he oversaw performance, risk and operations across more than a hundred emerging managers, and managed the outsourced fund servicing team responsible for valuation, administration and custody oversight on more than a thousand funds. He has therefore conducted operational due diligence on a great many managers, and knows which governance failures recur.
On a fund or Approved Manager board that translates into specific questions about mandate adherence, risk limits, NAV production and service provider performance — asked early, before an investor asks them.
Valuation & Fund Operations
As chair of a Valuation Committee, Christian is accustomed to level 2 and 3 pricing, override policies, independent pricing sources and the tension between a manager’s view and a defensible mark. This is central to his fund governance work: the board’s ability to test a valuation is only as good as its members’ understanding of how one is built.
Investment Banking & Audit
Earlier roles at PwC, Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank grounded him in audit, capital markets and institutional controls — a background that shows in how he reads financial statements and engages with auditors.
Digital Assets
Christian is Principal and Co-CIO of Brook Bay Capital and has direct oversight experience of crypto-focused hedge funds and their operational infrastructure: execution venues, custody, leverage and derivative exposure, and valuation of illiquid tokens. See Digital Asset & Web3 Governance.
Regulatory & Industry Roles
Member, BVI Financial Services Commission Securities, Investment Business and Mutual Funds Advisory Committee (SIBAC), which advises the Commission on investment business regulation. He is a permanent resident of the British Virgin Islands and attends board meetings in person in Road Town.
